Redefining Sundays! ;)

Sundays are always meant to CHILL! Waking up late and relaxing the whole day. Taking time off work is what really defines a Sunday.

By the time I grew up, competetion levels had sprung up to heights kissing the Petronas Towers! Sundays suddenly lost its meaning. Everyday became an experience with monotonous black and white print. Life lost all its colour. Tutions became a costly affair with hours consumed within a confined space where all creativity is murdered coldly.

My experience was also not a very good one. Being academically good, expectations always killed the inner spirit to explore new things. However I decided to take matters in my hand once I realised the mistake. I wanted to do what I loved most. I wanted to change my Sunday into a more memorable day which keeps me buyoed throughout the week so that I can enjoy the delights of the coming Sundays.

Though I never get enough sleep on Sundays, I actually look forward to them. The alarm starts ringing at 6 a.m. and Sullu(I call my pet dog Sullu! lol!) starts licking me! Forcing my eyes to open, I start packing my kit for Sunday football practice at Shivaji Park. I hop into my 800 and my day kickstarts with the purring of the engine.

I love this part of the day. 6.45 a.m. The roads are all empty. (Those who had a once in a lifetime chance to sit with me in my 800 will HATE IT! :P) I step on the gas until my engine roars in pleasure. Once the speedometer touches 90-100, brakes become alien. Lane disciplane can go to HELL!

After reaching Shivaji Park the fun begins. Kit up and start with football practice! I play for CFCM(Chelsea Fan Club - Mumbai). A group I joined through Orkut. Since I have been playing for over a year now, we keep sharing light moments and joke around along with discussing World Football. After the heavy footballing session and Nikhil's bad jokes we head to the golawala.

I totally love this part. Its the most amazing gola I have ever had. Flushes out all the tiredness leaving a sense of satisfaction. Once the company breaks up, Coach gets a chance to come back home in my Enzo(Ferrari's collaboration with Maruti Suzuki to produce my master piece 800!). Either he is a big fattu on planet Earth or he doesnt realise the pleasure that lay in driving! My masterclass conclusions! ;).....

Once I get home, I get a warm welcome from Sullu! After a heavy gujju lunch I finally get some time to catch up on my sleep. Once the clock ticks 5, Sullu enters her active mode. Time to take her for her weekly entertainment. We hop into the Enzo again and head for Powai. I take her to the dog park every week. Trust me, If u havent been there, commit suicide by the nearest means possible! It is the most amazing place on planet Earth after my favourite eating joints!

The minute I enter the park, a new aura can be sensed filled with zeal and joy. Sullu runs around the other dogs wagging her tail, fluttering her ears. She enjoys attention from other male dogs! Lol! Then she starts licking other counter-parts which I totally hate! Then to prove that she is vegetarian and a hungry labrador, she starts munching on the grass. And I have to run behind her shouting her name. And the others follow my trail!

Once the sun sets behind the Powai hill its time to leave. Sullu sort of likes to run outside the park and I have to pull her everytime. We get into the car and head homewards.

This becomes a Sunday schedule for me. Things which I love doing most. Things which make the week feel worthwhile even if it is not. Things that hold special values. Things that produce life in vivid colours. Things that I will always cherish in the years to come. Things that can win over any sour moment in life.

Though a Sunday for me is fixed, atleast I dont spend it befriending my text-books and REDEFINING SUNDAYS to its truest meaning and purpose! Cheers! :)

Money=Progress?

The BSE climbs up 1000 points and reaches a new landmark! Team India wins the T20 World Cup! Indian movie soars for Oscar! IIM-A Graduate gets job with annual earning of 67 lacs!

These were just some examples of success, more definitely progress in individual lives. But is the country really PROGRESSING? That is one question which haunts every Indian. Maybe India has introduced standards of international living but are they sufficient? The golden words to mark this is "The Rich keep getting Richer and the Poor keep getting POOR". However this has been proved worthless today. Everyone earns money but are too miserly to separate from it.

Personal gain is what matters at some level, and you can call it a disgrace on patriotism. This term has been the binding factor, the freedom factor, but are we really living to emphasize the real meaning of the word?

The word does not say that we help our country by providing monetary support but provide it the mental freedom and the feeling of equality every citizen deserves.

Equality is another word which is alien here. Citing a personal example, I was at a local restaurant once, and a very senior person who worked there asked me,"Kahiye SAHAB kya lenge?" Though I never paid attention that time, it is now I am wondering that the word SAHAB means so much. Hospitality maybe one of the criteria but the real reason is the man loves his job more than anything else. He has the burden of supporting a family. However I believe hospitality should never be compromised at the cost of self-respect and equality.

Everything is so smooth in the United States. A person can live normally even by working as a waiter/usher or all other jobs which are considered to be downtrodden in India. The sense of equality has been implemented with real character. Millions of job oppurtunities and earnings which supplement a great livelihood. Everything is just so SIMPLE. Supermarkets are nearby and they sell everything. The underlying idea here is that the standard of living is so good, that people dont have to waste time thinking about major family problems like housing, food, etc.

Government schools provide a standard level of education with various facilites to help students soar higher. Here, no one even thinks of getting into a government school. The city has been planned to its very detail and stringent laws also prohibit the throwing of garbage, etc. The basic building blocks of a country are its people and the way they present their country to others. Millions of problems squeeze out the life of people here. Public transport is over-crowded, traffic never seems to diminish, ameneties just keep getting costlier and costlier.

I am not comparing India to the United States or any other country but giving an outlook where WE have gone wrong. Areas where we need to improve so that our country is not regarded as 3rd world country.

This land is ours. Take care of it! ;)

P.S. - I am not a writer like J.K.Rowling or Dan Brown. But a writer's best critic are the readers. I would be very grateful if you would take the pains of commenting on what you really felt. Thank you!

It's that BITCH'S fault!

"Yea honey, I love you too! You are a sweetheart!" and imagine your mom's listens to these words! SCREWED! Unless she isnt against you having a girlfriend! That guy is damn lucky!

So these are the most common words from any guy to a gal who are in love. But once your mom finds out about it, then you have a big round table conference at your place and your mummy and papa give you all the demerits of DATING! During this period you dont know what to blurt out! Either you take them seriously or throw it out of another ear or fight for your right! And then the security levels at your place are accelarated to new levels! All your calls are scrutinized to the core until they are satisfied that its not the BITCH who will ruin your life you are talking to.

Conservative societies are the worst thing on this planet. I mean parents can be open to such stuff but it clearly implies that parents DONT trust their child. He is bound to get into hazardous situations which will deplete his marks and bonding with parents!

Now academic performance is related to this Dating/Love/Mushy stuff. You do well, and they are still not satisfied just because you don't top and you have the CAPABILITY to outperform everyone but your BITCH served as a distraction. And if your marks are below satisfactory levels then they will point a verbal gun at your head and shoot you down!

And then you hear your mom gossiping with some other auntie that just because of that BITCH my son is not able to perform WELL. This is the most difficult part to deal! You just dont know what to do. You are madly in love but have to oblige your parents at the same time!

Parents will never get rid of this mental block until a few 100 years! Until then, its always the BITCH'S fault!

The FEPL

Football mania had hit my college. With teams blossoming in all 10 divisions, I,Mech were the first ones to leap in. We got our jerseys made which were the limelight in the whole of FE, red and black blended with white. We went about the college flaunting our jerseys to others jealousy.

And the other teams joined in, with each divison having a jersey of their own. Inter-class rivalries started developing and after 3 consecutive draws and a loss, everyone was under the impression that I,Mech are just a bunch of idiotic losers who want to show off in every possible way. We were hellbent on chaging that image of ours but to no avail. The spot had been made and to make things worse, we were knocked out by a FE team in the House Cup. The only way to repaint our tarnished image was to get a win, somehow.

However now it was IJ,Mech. The 2 divisons were combined in an erratic fashion. Though majority players were from our class but the politicians were from J. The team captain was chosen however the team was just a formality I felt and none of them wanted the other class. However we moved on.

Then came the turning point, a golden chance to richfill the image with colours of joy and glory. The FEPL(First Year of Engineering Premier League) was introduced, the most coveted trophy for the FE's. We had 5 teams, every team to play 4 matches. Preparations started from I,Mech but J were no where to be seen. However we continued in their absence. And when the tournament was a stone's throw away, J suddenly woke up and unwatingly we had to draft players into our system.

However the tournament started with a bang when FE Computers lost to FE Extc, the underdogs. But the major part was when our 1st match was to be played. I was tensed as players in the team though i wasnt a part of the playing 11, i was the audience. The match kicked off with a bang and though we had many chances smacking the post at times, FE Computers got the lead. The margin increased to 6-0. Better say we were fucked hard. The team lacked chemistry. And we had a superb post-match arguement. Everyone felt J had no right to come into I,Mech. Politics played by the captain. Everyone was disappointed, Akaash Pathare also messaged me that night about his follies. I consider him to be the best player in the team.

So the team did realize about their mistakes. Chak De India jokes were being cracked to lighten up the mood of the players. However the cut was deep and would take lots to heal the wound.

Next up were FE Electronics who were the only team to beat us rather than Computers. They were the best FEPL team I felt. I remember playing against them and still losing to a useless deflected goal. The match was going good and ended as a 0-0 draw. IMPROVEMENT! However they were the better team, hitting the crossbar and the posts a million times and our shots being virually nil.

I always felt Muzzamil should have been in the team. His intelligence, cutting, workrate, everything is just so amazing. However the underdogs were up next. I was a spectator hoping my team would win. We shouted our lungs out to support the team. Mechanical students had turned up in large numbers, however we were unable to find a goal. The captain went for attacking options and put in Muzzamil and Rishit. The ball landed at Muzzu's feet and after some sexy cutting he placed a shot/pass(He said it was a shot but seemed like a pass!) and Rishit hit the rolling ball. After a few ricochets the ball finally turned the balance. MECHANICAL TEAM had scored their FIRST EVER WINNING GOAL. 1-0 and 3 points to the Mech team. We were overjoyed at our attempt! Post-match celebrations were cheerful!

Muzzu's determination won him a matchstart in the following match against FE IT. He was looking to continue his form. After a good start, Muzzu started with his cutting and in a gasp of fury, he lashed the ball at the keeper. And the ball crossed the line. The Mech supporters were on the pitch celebrating! We continued the match and dominated it. Krunal got the better of a defender and his rocket found the net second time for us. This time the audience went crazy. There was a dog-pile on him, I was personally congratulating him for I had asked him to score 1 for the team.

And as the final whistle drew closer, the audience couldnt wait. Chants were being shouted. And we finally stood second in the FEPL. We had found the perfect team, the perfect players, and the perfect audience! Always supportive of the team, IJ,Mech had proved that they were not a bunch of show-offs but a team with the never-say-die spirit. We had proved our point, brought up our image in front of people.

Maybe this win is historic, but it was truly the Chak De Style ;)
